LAS CRUCES YOUTH CHOIR 2022 FALL SEMESTER

Mission: The Las Cruces Youth Choir’s goal is to nurture and inspire achievement through quality choral experiences for singers who desire to achieve artistic excellence in singing.

We welcome all students and aim to enrich the lives of singers from all religious, racial, cultural, and economic backgrounds. Singers will have the opportunity to experience personal growth through activities that foster leadership self-worth, teamwork, and appreciation of music.

PAUL HALLSTED

Paul Hallsted has been a music educator for 39 years. He has taught all levels, from preschool through graduate level university classes. His degrees are in music education and choral music from New Mexico State University.

Mr. Hallsted has many experiences in the field of choral music. He was the assistant choral director, working with Beth Borchert-Thomas at Mayfield High School for 17 years. He co-directed the Dona Ana Youth Choir with Geraldine Brink for 27 years. Paul Hallsted has been a guest clinician for many honor choirs throughout the United States, which include many school districts in NM, Oklahoma, Colorado, New York and once in Wuhan, China. Paul is a frequent adjudicator for district solo and ensemble and Music Performance Assessments throughout New Mexico.

Paul Hallsted has taught in many Orff Schulwerk certification courses throughout the United States. He is currently teaching Orff at UNM in Albuquerque, Southern Methodist University in Dallas, and Metro State University in Denver.

Paul often presents Orff, and Choral workshops throughout the United States. He has presented at numerous All State Conferences in New Mexico, Oklahoma and Mississippi. He has presented Orff Workshops throughout the United States and has presented at the National Orff Conference many times.

Spring Semester: 1^st Rehearsal: January 23

Under the direction of Paul Hallsted students will gain experience developing the singing voice through vocal warm-ups, singing games and appropriate repertoire. Singers will develop ear training and sight singing skills every rehearsal through solfege and hand signs activities that lead to music literacy. The bulk of the rehearsal time will be spent on rehearsing pieces for performances.
