Las Cruces Youth Orchestra and Choirs
Las Cruces Youth Orchestra and Choirs was founded by the violinist and conductor Simon Gollo as a preparatory program of NMSU music department. The Las Cruces Youth Orchestras and Choirs seeks to promote music as part of the cultural development in Las Cruces New Mexico, and the border region. Inspired by the philosophy of El Sistema, LCYO and Choirs envisions social change through music that reaches young people with the fewest resources and the greatest need in its culturally rich communities.
Under the direction of Maestro Simon Gollo. The Mozart Orchestra is a string ensemble for our most advanced students, primarily high schoolers. Rehearsals will be from 10-1:30 PM each Saturday and will include sectionals for each instrument, all-state prep, and large ensemble rehearsals.
Amadeus Orchestra is a string ensemble for beginner to intermediate string students, primarily middle schoolers. Rehearsals will be from 10-12:30 PM each Saturday and will include sectionals for each instrument and large ensemble rehearsal.
Under the direction of Ida M. Holguin, the Las Cruces Youth Choir is a non-auditioned community choir for kids from 7th through 12th grade. Ms. Holguin will teach and build healthy and age-appropriate vocal techniques, all in a fun and encouraging setting. Rehearsals will take place every Saturday afternoon from 2:00 - 4:00 in the NMSU Choir Room. Each rehearsal is designed to engage singers while helping them grow in skill level, confidence, and friendship.
First day of Music is a violin, viola or cello group class for beginner students, primarily elementary schoolers. "My First Day of Music" will be from 9 to 9.45 am each Saturday.
